Q) What are author rights?
Author rights refer to the rights of the person who writes a minibook to edit its content and receive any revenue generated from it.
The person who writes a minibook automatically holds the author rights.
Q) What are shared author rights?
It means giving your author rights of a minibook to a third party.
The third party can be an individual or a company.
An assignee who is granted the author rights has the same rights as the assignor.
That means they can edit the content of the minibook and receive revenue if there is any.
Q) How do assignors and assignees receive revenue?
The assignor must agree with the assignee on how to split the revenue.
You can set the revenue split ratio on YouBook (see below).
After that, YouBook will distribute the revenue according to the set ratio when the minibook is sold.
Q) When do people usually share author rights?
Case 1: When co-creating a minibook
The author finds a third party to create a minibook together and shares author rights.
The third party can add, edit, delete pages or rearrange them, just like the author. Revenue will be shared as well.
Case 2: When the author publishes a minibook but has difficulty promoting it to the public
In this case, the author shares author rights with a third party (like a publisher).
The third party promotes the minibook and boosts sales, then shares the revenue with the author.
The third party can also be an influencer or even a regular person, not just a publisher.
Case 3: When the author publishes a minibook but struggles with foreign languages or markets
Here, the author shares author rights with a third party (such as a foreign publisher).
The third party translates and promotes it for better sales abroad.
The revenue is then shared between the author and the third party.
Conversely, you could receive shared author rights from a foreign author.
After negotiating with the author and receiving the rights, you can rewrite it in your native language and promote it.
Any revenue earned will be split between you and the foreign author.
Q) What rights does an assignee have?
An assignee who receives author rights holds the same rights as the assignor.
They can edit the published minibook and receive any revenue from sales.
Of course, the revenue should be shared based on prior agreement with the assignor.
Note: Assignees cannot transfer the shared author rights to someone else.
Q) How is revenue settled after sharing?
YouBook distributes the revenue based on the agreed ratio between assignor and assignee.
Q) Can shared author rights be canceled?
Once shared, author rights cannot be canceled.
The assignee will hold those rights permanently, so make your decision carefully.
Q) What if there’s a conflict between the assignor and assignee?
If a dispute occurs, it must be resolved through mutual agreement.
YouBook does not intervene in disputes.
Q) How do I share author rights?
Go to MY – Purchase & Settlement – Shared author rights – select the minibook – tap the third party (publisher, etc.) – and enter their email. Don’t forget to set the revenue split.
The person with that email will then hold shared author rights to the selected minibook.
